Riccarton Results and Report - 7th June 2025

Results and report from our Riccarton event are now available ...

The Heriot-Watt university campus is a great place to orienteer, as demonstrated by the excitement of last summer's World Orienteering Championships mixed sprint relays, the fun morning a few weeks ago for our post-Parkrun novices' taster session, and then today's competition event. Over 120 participants enjoyed Claire Ward's courses round the grounds (exceedingly quiet given the student exodus for the summer), despite the typical-for-June (i.e., wet!) weather. Handy to have two club tents for shelter!

It was great to see some familiar faces from the Parkrun Takeover and Taster session we held at Oriam Parkrun a few weeks ago, and hopefully they will have been bitten further by the orienteering bug after enjoying today's courses. It was nice as always to welcome pupils from the ESMS orienteering club, bringing cakes and other goodies as well as their compasses and dibbers; we wish Mrs Molloy a very happy retirement!

A big thank-you - particularly in national Volunteer Week! - to all the club volunteers who made this event possible: Planner Claire Ward, on-the-day organisers Chris Dibben and Phillippa Ascough, William Ivory for general coordination and entries, plus on-the-day helpers Paul, Rob, Ann, Jane C, Lorna, Lukas, Murray, Tessa, Katherine, and William. Special thanks to Paul and Chris who dealt with renumbering in SI Timing and on the control units when we realised the maps had the default CONDES control numbers not the correct ones ...
