Orienteer anytime at Craigmillar Castle Park - try out our new Permanent Orienteering Courses!

Free orienteering activities are now available, using a brand new set of permanent-orienteering markers. Try some map-based fun and adventure this spring! Craigmillar Castle Park is a great place to spend active time outdoors at any time of year.  Following the installation of new orienteering marker posts this spring, a brand new set of course maps are now available to enjoy, for free and whenever you want.  Just download maps from our website, head to the start point and off you go on a fun adventure navigating round the checkpoints in the correct order. Who doesn’t like a treasure hunt!

There’s something for everyone, whether new to orienteering or a regular looking for some practice. With a choice of several different Start points (by Bridgend farmhouse, Castlebrae Avenue, or the Playpark), course maps are available for different lengths and the challenge. It’s very family-friendly and a great way to get the kids active and having fun during school holidays or weekends. Enjoy the challenge of working round the courses and finding the correct markers, or race with friends to see who can be fastest (and most accurate!).

Craigmillar Castle Park is a pleasant mix of woodland and open grassland, with a good path network, and fine views over the city as well as to the Castle.  There’s also an amazing playpark, and check out Bridgend Farmhouse Café for refreshments after.

Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust will be holding free-to-all family festivals in the park, with the first on Saturday 19 April (1-3pm by the playpark). Come along for course maps and information as well as lots of other fun activities.
