Blackford Sprintelope #12 - Wednesday 14th July 2021
12th Sprintelope of the year, with a distinct absence of streets as all the action will be on Blackford Hill and the Hermitage. Read on for further details...
The twelfth Sprintelope of the 2021 season takes place on Wednesday 14th July and in a departure from the usual urban Sprintelopes, the courses are entirely within the area of Blackford Hill and the Hermitage.This means that U16s may run unaccompanied, though note that the courses cover some steep terrain and go close to several large crags.
Unlike last year, we can now all race on the same evening, though we need to allocate start blocks and you must pre-register using the entry form now available.
Courses, Start and Finish

This will be a different type of a sprint challenge than previous events as we move into the forest and into the terrain. Full body cover and shoes with grip are advised. There are areas of steep hillside/forest valley and potential stream crossings if you choose to. Please be aware there are some steep crags which should be avoided.
There will be a short and a long course. Event is organised by Scott Fraser with support from Interlopers. Start times are in 15-minute blocks - please turn up at / near the start of your block and be prepared to wait in a socially distanced queue. Please start as soon as you are able if there is no queue so we don't end up with a larger queue later in the evening. Courses close at 8:30pm. Maps will be A4 1:4000.
- Short (light green) - approx 2.3km, 130m climb. NB: optimum route around 2.7km
- Long (green) - approx 2.9km. 180m climb. NB: optimum route around 3.75km
Start location at Midmar Paddock
When you have finished, please download (splits printout will be kept by organiser) and then leave the area as soon as possible. Results will be posted here on the website. You can view the Munro League for Sprintelopes here.
