Craigmillar Sprintelope #1 - Wednesday 27th April

1st Sprintelope of the year, in Craigmillar

The first Sprintelope of the 2022 season takes place on Wednesday 27th April in Craigmillar.  Craigmillar is a "traditionally managed Midlothian estate" i.e. the owners sold it to the council who put up a housing scheme. It's a magic area: famous residents include Helen Duncan, the last person convicted under the Witchcraft act (for not being a proper witch). Like last year, we can now all race on the same evening, and won't need to allocate exact start times.

*** Please SIGN UP by midnight on Monday 25th April ***

See the Sprintelope Facebook page for any last minute updates.

This is an urban event on paths or grass. Shorts & trainers recommended. Courses cross numerous traffic-calmed 20mph limited roads, including Craigmillar Castle Road which can have significant traffic. Also dogs, dog-related items and dog-owners abound. Be careful out there.

Courses, Start and Finish

There will be a short and a long course. Start and finish at the West end of Castlebrae Avenue. Event is organised by Graeme Ackland.

  • Short 2.8km (optimal route)
  • Long 5.7km (optimal route)

When you have finished, please download (splits printout will be kept by organiser) and then leave the area as soon as possible. Results will be posted to the website when ready - this may not be on Wednesday evening though! You can view the Munro League for Sprintelopes here.
